Maintenance Cuts Protest

The 19th January 2016, hundreds of students left their univeristy lectures to protest against the Maintenance Loan cuts.

The students walked with banners to Westminster Bridge stopping traffic and blocking the roads along the way. Suddenly the crowd stopped and sat in the middle of the bridge, right outside parliment, and began chanting, hitting pots and pans and clapping.

Shortly after policemen appeared which resuted in half the group fleeing.

The officers started by politely asking the students sitting down to stand up and to sit on the pavement.  However the aim of the protest was clear - to cause chaos - which was the only way to have their cause noticed.

The police quickly called back up and carried on with normal protest proceedure -  encircling the protestors.
